I do consider myself a photographer of sorts. Back in early 2006 I bought a Fujifilm Finepix E900. It had a few issues with it; sometimes freezing and the only way to get it going was to remove then reinsert the batteries. But I did take it on a four-day backpacking trip. The sad thing was, I knew nothing when it came time to compose a picture, so I ended up with all these magnificent views captured in most unflattering ways. Actually I did get lucky a few times, and do have one or two pictures that could be calendar material.
But the camera would still lock up. One day I got fed up and hit it pretty hard. It didn’t like me after that and I never got it to take another picture. So in February 2008 I bought another point-and-shoot, a Canon Powershot G9. It had come out late 2007 and sounded good, but I waited for reviews before making the purchase.
Finally, in January 2012, I bought my first DSLR. A used Canon Rebel T2i. It came with a 55-250mm lens and a tote bag, which was handy. A few weeks later I bought a 10-22mm wide angle for it. Now I am on the prowl for places to use it. There aren’t any good landscapes to shoot in the city. I would really like to plan a trip to the wilds and bring my camera along.

Towards the end of May, I bought a 24-105mm F4L lens. I’ve needed a better walk-around lens since the 10-22 is on the wide side of town and the 55-250 on the long end, so now aside from 23mm I have everything covered from 10 to 250mm.
For my birthday in 2013, I added the Helios 44-2 58mm lens to my growing collection. It’s an old Soviet M42 mount lens, so I also bought an adapter to get it to fit the T2i. It’s the fastest lens I own at f2.0 and I like it.
In the fall of 2013 I also took a intro to photography class at Orange Coast College. It was a lot of fun. Dealt with 35mm black and white, so I learned about film (whoa) and processing the film, making enlargements, etc. Actually, as of today, Thanksgiving Day, November 28th, the class isn’t quite over, so why am I talking about it in past tense?

The class is officially over and I officially got an A. It was a lot of fun.
And for Christmas, Elizabeth got me an old 35-80mm lens that I took the front element off and turned into a fixed-focus macro lens.

Now I am taking an intro to Photoshop and Lightroom class at school. This week I’m getting over a cold so good thing it’s also Spring Break.
